Social Security Scam

Partners 1st would like to share a recent fraud alert discovered by the Better Business Bureau of Northern Indiana. Please see the following message regarding fraudulent online accounts.

Social Security Alert Explanation:

Your Better Business Bureau serving Northern Indiana (BBB) strives to provide accurate information to the public. On Friday, 3-1-19, BBB sent out two Alert emails; one advising of a Social Security Scam and one stating a correction. Our apologies for any confusion. We were receiving a lot of information at the 11th hour on Friday and wanted to get something out prior to the weekend. If you receive a letter from Social Security stating that you had created an online account that you, in fact, did not create... act immediately.

  • Call the Social Security Office at 1.800.772.1213 to inform them of this unauthorized account activity.
  • Report this incident to the Office of the Inspector General at 1.800.269.0271 or online at https://oig.ssa.gov/report.
  • BBB recommends doing a free annual credit check by calling 1.877.322.8228 or online at www.annualcreditreport.com.
  • BBB advises that you put a credit freeze on your credit reports. You can do this by going to www.in.gov/attorneygeneral/2411.htm.
